Recycling plastics in space? NASA can do this!
National Aeronautics and Space Administration will start a special plastics recycling programme next year.
Next spring, NASA will get a new piece of equipment called the Refabricator. It can take a plastic component, melt it down, and print a new component out of the same plastic.
It’s the first machine to combine recycling and 3D printing into one device.
It costs about US$ 10 000 to launch one pound of material into space.
This method is more safety becasue pulverises plastic considering the lack of gravity in space means that any powder-type material poses a health risk for astronauts.
